Mom in the Mirror: Eating Disorders in Pregnancy and Parenting
PRESENTER: Dena Cabrera, Psy.D., CEDS
DETAILS: Being a mother (or father) with an eating disorder can make parenting very difficult to an
already challenging role. Dr. Dena Cabrera, author of Mom in the Mirror: Body image, beauty, and life after pregnancy, will discuss the necessary components in the assessment and treatment of eating disorders with women during pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, and the parenting years. It will also look at the issues specific for a father with an eating disorder. Practical tools will be provided. Drawing on work with her own clients, the material used to write her book, and inpatient / residential treatment experience, this workshop will be engaging and informative.
OBJECTIVES:
1. Identify three medical, developmental, and psychological challenges eating disorders may pose from the beginnings of pregnancy through childbirth, the postpartum period, and parenting years.
2. Explain four tools to help mothers and fathers with eating disorders overcome child-rearing problems of greatest concern to them and their children’s health.
3. Identify three interferences eating disorders may have on child-rearing practices, such as breastfeeding difficulties, attachment issues, feeding issues, mealtime disorganization, weight and body image concerns in their children.

MEET THE SPEAKER
Dena Cabrera, Psy.D., CEDS, Rosewood Centers for Eating Disorders VP of Clinical Services
Dr. Dena Cabrera is a mom, psychologist, author, and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist. She serves as the VP of Clinical Services at Rosewood and is the owner of Cabrera Psychological Services, a highly specialized practice for those suffering with eating disorders, anxiety, and trauma. Dr. Cabrera has been providing clinical care for patients and families with eating disorders and other mental health issues for over 22 years. She is committed and passionate about advocacy, training, and education. Dr. Cabrera is the author of Mom in the Mirror: Body Image, Beauty and Life After Pregnancy. She is a board member of iaedp, Eating Disorder Coalition, Rock Recovery and MASK.
