Best Practices for Treating Binge Eating Disorder
PRESENTER: Denisa Larreau, MS, LIMHP
DETAILS: Binge Eating Disorder (BED) has only been recognized by the DSM-5 since 2013. The result has been limited research on BED compared to many other eating disorders. This presentation will include a general overview of BED, specific focus on research related to treatment outcomes and an enhanced clinical understanding based on the findings of EDCare’s Binge Eating Disorder specific treatment curriculum. Denisa will discuss effective interventions in BED treatment, as well as identifying areas for increased focus.
OBJECTIVES:
1. Explain of the Biopsychosocial presentation of Binge Eating Disorder.
2. Interpret emerging research towards BED treatment goals and treatment strategies.
3. Identify the principals of HAES® treatment model (Health At Every Size®).

MEET THE SPEAKER
Denisa Larreau Mettler, MS, LIMHP, LPC and Program Coordinator at EDCare Omaha
Denisa Larreau is a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2011. She went on to receive her Masters of Science in Clinical Counseling at the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2013. She has been in private practice since 2014, and working with EDCare since 2018. Denisa has been active in the eating disorder community, and has served as President for the Nebraska Eating Disorder Network Executive Committee (NEDN). She is also a member of the Association for Private Practice Therapists (APPT).

Denisa’s clinical career includes experience across a variety of levels of care ranging from outpatient therapy to partial hospitalization. From there Denisa transitioned into private practice in Omaha, Nebraska in 2014, and joined EDCare in 2018. She has focused on building her practice around the treatment and prevention of eating disorders. Denisa is currently the owner of Infinite Hope Counseling, LLC, in Omaha, NE, and the Program Manager of the EDCare Omaha location. Denisa oversees the Evening Intensive Outpatient Program, the BED IOP program, and the outpatient services. Denisa is most passionate about helping those clients who struggle with eating disorders, body-image self-esteem, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive disorders.
